The 4th annual Ella Fitzgerald Competition will take place virtually at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. There will be no audience allowed due to the in-person restrictions presently in place in the District of Columbia. The competition will be limited to no more people than the five finalists, the three judges and the production crew. The five finalists will perform no more than three song selections and these selections will include two songs from the 1964 “Ella Sings Mercer” recording with one bonus selection from the Johnny Mercer songbook. The five finalists will perform every ten minutes over an hour with awards being presented pursuant to our judges’ final decision. The competition will be followed by a free performance of the Blues Alley Youth Combo and a paid “3 Divas” concert at 8:00 pm with our three competition judges: Alison Crockett, Darden Purcell and Jessica Boykin-Settles.
